| So, Btec first course and I'm starting my "final major project" which is similar to what the higher up groups do. Basically we get to choose what area we specialise in, and what theme we want to do it on and we have 10 weeks to create a project and then hang it in a small college exhibition.
Our 4 areas are: drawing and painting; sculpture; illustration/graphics or fashion and textiles.
I'm thinking of doing illustration/graphics because I prefer design and how the design process works and it would still incorporate painting and other stuff but I know I'm not doing sculpture.
But I have NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT TO DO FOR A THEME!
One girl is doing a poster but I think that for 10 weeks...I'd get so bored and would want more.
Also I have to think about how I'm going to present it and I want something I could maybe have various things for...like one girl's boyfriend is a dj and she was saying one club told him that if he wanted to dj there, then he'd have to design a theme night and have posters and flyers made; which if i could think of a theme then that would be quite cool...but i think shes doing that so meh.
So I want to do something with illustration/graphics (unless you can think of something cool and textiles based. it cant really be about making a dress or something - they've said that we cant do it).
So yes...Illustration/Graphics...I cannot draw people. I can draw other things.
I want something really cool.
I just remembered a girl that I used to write to in austrailia told me about her final art piece where she had this book on the monthly female cycle and did a series of canvases with text about various periods of the month and stuff and i want some sort of cool idea like that. i need to be able to get primary sources and secondary (but secondary is easy isnt it).
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS?! We have an assessment on monday and on top of all of our work, we have to do this and we've not even discussed it with out tutors or anything and im so fucking pissed off...heylp. _________________

| what about something like a campaign?
if you wanted to do something illustration-y you could do something for kids - teaching them about road safety, racism, health, bullying, excercise?
you could have postcards, posters, flick books with good/bad characters - lots of bright colours and playful typefaces _________________

| yeh...its deciding what to do tho. Illustration is basically graphic design as well so that's an option.
I'd quite like to do something like that, especially as I'm going into teaching. What would I draw for something like road safety though? That ones a wee bit difficult - I am NOT drawing cars Health might be ok...a bunch of drawings of...vegetables? hehe what else?!
I considered like sexual health but im not feeling drawing penises and stuff a nice condom as well or something. Although it would be quite interesting to do.
I like this idea...I think I just need to find a good subject.
For health/healthy eating/living, I could have more teenager aimed ones as well as for younger children? Would that be too much work?! _________________

| Umm well for road safety I imagined something like the Hedgehogs that used to be on the tv? You could have stuff like 'look left, look right', simple stuff like when you're riding your bike wear a helmet and reflective clothing, not crossing between parked cars, crossing where theres a lollypop man or a push-button set of traffic lights, remembering it gets dark earlier in winter so it could be dark when you walk home, waiting for the green man.... Then maybe some simple statistics like about how many children get hurt each year.
Health has loads of stuff you can incorporate - things you should eat lots of (fruits - and why they taste yummy), not eating lots of sweets and fizzy juice - how they're bad for your body, fun stuff which tastes nice like smoothies - or pancakes with fruit (suggested recipe ideas for nice things that arent junk?), then maybe stuff like - make sure you play for half an hour each day... skateboarding or rollerblading or going on your bike. Have you looked at the kids Innocent smoothie cartons? They're AMAZING! They have stuff like "shake it like beyonce" before you drink it with the cute character.
Also lots of stuff like games - puzzles, crosswords, colouring in? _________________

| yeh its more for the original source drawings...i guess i could draw playgrounds and maybe like...rollerskates or bits of a bike as well as fruit and veg. im just wondering if i could get enough out of it...
i think i could.
oh and i make those little felt things like...oh god i feel bad but the other user on here >.< so i could always make some of those if i had time.
but yeh this sounds quite good. _________________

| atm we're doing a project on graphic design for specific purposes, we've designed a wine label and presentation box, but with wine there's so much stuff you can design to go with it - you could do something liek that.
or take an existing children book and redo the illustrations?
Or perhaps take a theme - perhaps something political - and then create a way of showing it without using words. we did this with dada/surrealism and i made a picture book.
Uhhh. we also did music posters that was combined with stencilling for graphics, and some of those were amazing, because if you do 100% stencilling it gives a really polished look and probably takes a fair while/shows alot of skill.
Just trying to think of prjects we're doing. ahaha. _________________ if you don't like me, or have a problem with anything i say...

| ok ive decided on something. i was in at my school talking to my old design and techy teacher about being a teacher and the advanced highers are doing a magazine article and when i spoke to him about my issues with the project and he suggested i did a magazine article, cover and then maybe go on to do a poster or something.
but im fecking stuck for an article. i bought elle and vogue because i thought i could maybe do something fashiony. but the ones they do in school are like 6 pages and i think id be quite hard doing it for one of these. i might go and get a film magazine like empire. i think it needs to be something like a film of something that i could do good images for...something fashiony might not have that? im not sure...once again ideas? i think this'll be quite cool tho. _________________

| you could do something eco? like eco fashion? you could ramble on about that for hours and do some comic-like illustrations. _________________ if you don't like me, or have a problem with anything i say...

| | do some digital works. i love Ai and Ps, i actually just did a midterm project in my 2d class. we took two opposing forces and through three compositions, illustrated them. mine was pretty much 50% tactile, 50% digital, but it was very cool. the pieces were quite large, though, so they were a pricey print. do you have a size limit/requirement? |
