PostSubject: Auditions   Wed Oct 15, 2008 4:02 pm

I thought it would be cool and helpful to have a topic where we can all talk about auditions and whatnot and help and give opinions and all that!

I have an audition some time next week i think on monday
I have to choose one fast song, (like, up-tempo)
and a slow song (think ballads..)

I have no clue what to sing!!
For my ballad I might do I Want To Hold Your Hand (TV Carpio style)
but for my faster song I don't know what I can do that will show my voice off well. =(

I have no idea how to describe my voice to you though.. =/
i wanna hold your hand is totally in my range, its easy to sing for me..
i have trouble singing those very low notes..
I have a voice similar to Fefe Dobson if that helps??

I have no idea who Fefe Dobson is, but if you have a high voice, try "In the Arms of the Angel" by Sarah mclachlan for the slow song, or really any song by here- absolutely breathtaking Smile

fast song umm... wihtout hearing you I don't know but have a listen to The Grates (my fave is "Carve your Name") and see what you think Smile

ugh i wish i could record my voice to show you heheh

http://www.imeem.com/tag/fefe%20dobson/

or you know the hush sound?
In Goodbye Blues, Bob does a few songs
I'm kind of like female Bob, with a slightly higher voice
or like, finger eleven or three days grace..

maybe I should just choose a song from one of them LOL
but yeah
thats kinda what my voice sounds like!

Ahh.. This is my kinda topic!

I've had waay too many auditions over the last 10 years.

What are you auditioning for Steph? And what's your lowest/highest note? We can find out some more stuff about your range Very Happy

Soprano
Mezzo-Soprano
Contralto/Alto

I've been a soprano for a long time, but my voice has matured over the last year and a half and I've recently started training as a Mezzo. I had my singing lesson yesterday and my teacher was so pleased - she said it has the makings of 'A very clear mezzo voice - suitable for early music, and many trouser-roles in Opera'.

I've been working on trying to find my top notes (above my top B) for 4 years with no such luck.. My voice just isn't comfortable up there. But I can sing down to a bottom F with no problems! Here's my range, sorry for the crappy drawing on paint!

Anyway, sorry I hijacked the thread with my ramblings! It's just so exciting to start training with a different voice! Very Happy Very Happy

SO. Audition tips.

* Pick a song you're sure of - memorise it - practice singing it without an accompaniment.
*Choose a song that is right for your voice and right for the type of audition you are having. Choose songs that display your vocal range/agility.
*Drink water with a splash of orange cordial in it pretty much all of the previous day - keeps the vocal folds from clogging up with mucus and gunky stuff! To help avoid this, try not to eat spicy foods or chocolate/or drink milk before your audition.

I have quite a few more, but don't want to go all Muso on your ass, so here are a few confidence tips also: Smile

*Take a couple of deep breaths and exhale slowly to calm yourself.
*Wear clothing that is comfortable and enhances your appearance - no restricting belts etc that can affect you from breathing from your diaphragm.
*When you are ready to start your audition, say hello to the auditioners and provide them with a brief introduction to the song you are about to perform.
*Concentrate on the music and your performance. Do your best. Don't fluster or stop if you make a mistake, continue as if nothing happened.

Hope this long post helps in some way? xx
