Yep just elastic, took a trip to Hobbycraft today to pick the bits n' pieces up... omg their buttons are soooo expensive!

You're not dumb tongue but yep it's as easy as it looks (just threaded on elastic and tied). There are more complicated ways to do it, if you google button bracelet it brings up a few tutorials.
